As of 4/21/11 I have successfully migrated this website to the latest version of Umbraco, v4.7. The actual migration should have been simple (since there was no database changes), but instead of upgrading the site I already had, I chose to perform a new install, and then manually migrate over all the content from old to new. I did this in part to re-learn the setup process, but also to avoid carrying over lots of orphaned image files, macors, XLT files etc that I was no longer using.

Whenever I have a client with an SQL 2000 database, and if they are experiencing performance issues (and even if they are not), I usually suggest they upgrade to SQL2005, or better yet SQL2008 (the second thing I suggest is more memory and faster disks, but that is another article altogether). After all, SQL2000 is getting close to 10 years old at this point, and 10 years is a very long time when you are talking technology. Needless to say, a lot of things have improved since SQL2000 was released.

If you are not familiar with it, GraffitiCMS is an ASP.Net C# Content Managment System from Telligent that recently (last month) went open source. I was not at all familiar with the product until last month, but since it has gone open source I have jumped in with both feet as part of my quest to find the 'perfect' CMS, and also as a to use as a building block for a vertical product I have in the works.
